Sales (Re)structuring & Selection in Amersfoort
Why here
Everybody billable and the pipeline empty: that is the most recognisable picture on De Hoef and Calveen. As long as utilisation holds, nobody prospects, and when one assignment falls away the search only then begins. Restructuring here does not mean more salespeople, but giving acquisition its own place: fixed hours that cannot be traded against a deadline, its own target and its own review moment. On the corporate side something else applies. The stage model needs supplier qualification as a separate step, because without that status the rest of your deal is theoretical, however enthusiastic the user is. And the account plan reaches beyond one contact: multiple sites, a buying function located elsewhere, and a contract with an end date you want in your diary long before the renewal reaches the table.
No list of offices — just honesty: we work remote-first and come on-site where it truly matters, by plane if that is what it takes. Travel costs are charged on.
Our approach
Renewals, expansion at existing clients and genuinely new customers: that is how last year's revenue gets split. That breakdown makes the problem discussable without blame. We then fix the acquisition hours in the week, write out the stages with supplier qualification as its own step, and build an account plan per group. The weekly meeting arrives in the same period, with the manager who will take it over.
Frequently asked questions
-
Our people are billable. How do you stop acquisition always losing out?
By not treating acquisition as a leftover. Hours that have to happen 'somewhere in between' lose to every client deadline. We schedule them as a fixed block, give them a target independent of utilisation, and review them in the same meeting as the projects. In services firms it also helps to make one person non-billable for that part, so it does not depend on good intentions.
-
Do we really need supplier qualification as its own stage?
When you sell into corporate groups, yes. Without that status the user cannot buy from you however convinced they are, and deals then die months after a good meeting. Making it a stage with an exit criterion shows how much of your pipeline still sits behind that threshold. It also changes the order of your work: apply for qualification before a concrete deal exists.
