Sales (Re)structuring & Selection in Amsterdam
Why here
Nowhere in the Netherlands does a sales team change shape as fast as it does here: commercial vacancies are plentiful and a trained SDR is an attractive candidate for a scale-up in Zuidoost. A department that runs on experience held in people's heads therefore loses part of itself every year. So we first write down what currently exists only in conversation: stage definitions, exit criteria and the onboarding path, so that someone who starts in March is contributing in April. The second Amsterdam design problem sits in the pipeline itself. A deal inside an international group has a step that does not exist elsewhere — the Dutch manager is convinced and then has to secure budget internally — while a trading company near Westpoort decides within a fortnight. Those two do not belong in the same stages with the same weighting, or your forecast adds up two incomparable things. We separate them, each with its own division of roles.
No list of offices — just honesty: we work remote-first and come on-site where it truly matters, by plane if that is what it takes. Travel costs are charged on.
Our approach
The past year of deals goes back on the table first — where did they stall, and was that at the top of the funnel or at the internal approval on the other side — while we listen in, in both languages. In parallel we look at what people who have since left actually recorded in the CRM. Out of that comes a two-stream stage model and an onboarding path written down before the first vacancy opens.
Frequently asked questions
-
Our SDR seats turn over every year. Is restructuring even worth it?
Especially then. Turnover only becomes damaging when a departure takes the knowledge with it: the list, the triggers, the objections and the agreements nobody wrote down. If the process exists outside the person, a resignation asks onboarding time of you rather than revenue. We build the onboarding path so a new rep works alongside real accounts in week one, instead of spending three months working out how selling is done here.

Should deals inside international groups and fast trading deals share one pipeline?
No. At most they share the first stage. A deal inside an international group needs a separate step for the internal approval round, with its own exit criterion: only once the Dutch contact has confirmed who at group level decides and when it will be discussed does the deal move on. Without that step a deal sits at 'likely' for months while nothing happens, and that is exactly the forecast nobody believes any more.
