Sales (Re)structuring & Selection in Dordrecht
Why here
In many Dordrecht manufacturing firms there is no sales department; there is an estimator, a work planner and a director sitting in on it. The quote goes out and after that nobody owns it. That is where it breaks: a six-figure deal stays open for months because everyone assumes someone else is calling. So we design the process around ownership per quote, with stages that match how work runs here — drawing approved, inspection scheduled, dock available — rather than calendar months. On staffing we are not looking for a slick salesperson but for someone who can hold a technical conversation on the shop floor and still dares to ask for a decision. We test that on behaviour: a real calling block and a real objection about references, not a CV sprinkled with shipbuilding terms.
No list of offices — just honesty: we work remote-first and come on-site where it truly matters, by plane if that is what it takes. Travel costs are charged on.
Our approach
Your quote book from the past year opens first. Which were won, which quietly expired, and at what point in the process it went silent. Alongside that we sit in on the estimating work and listen in on a customer conversation. Those two sources produce the stage model: a definition, an exit criterion and a single owner per stage. Over the same period we write the role profile and the split of duties across estimating, follow-up and closing.
Frequently asked questions
-
Our selling sits with the estimator. Does that have to change?
Not necessarily change, but it has to be explicit. An estimator can hold the substantive conversation perfectly well; the problem is that calculating and following up need different days, and calculating always wins. So we record who takes the quote over the moment it is sent, and when. Often that is the same person — just with a blocked half-day instead of good intentions.

What kind of rep suits a supplier in the Drechtsteden?
Someone who can read a drawing without needing to grasp every last dimension, and who does not get waved off by the reference objection. We build both into the selection: we have candidates run a real conversation about a real enquiry, and we put to them the objection that lands here every week — have you done this before for a comparable yard.
What you invest depends on what we build. The homepage says where it starts.
