Sales (Re)structuring & Selection in Schiedam
Why here
In maritime manufacturing the commercial problem is usually not a lack of skill but a lack of ownership. Engineering talks to engineering, a proposal goes out, and nobody steers the decision, while the process runs for years and at least one contact leaves along the way. So restructuring here does not mean adding a sales team; it means one identifiable person owns each track and sits at the table beside engineering. Then we build stages that match this buying process: technical fit, budget cycle, qualification or audit, framework agreement, order. Every stage gets an exit criterion someone can verify, because without that a pipeline in this sector is a list of hopes. And because revenue depends on few parties, we also steer on spread: how much of the pipeline hangs on the same two customers.
No list of offices — just honesty: we work remote-first and come on-site where it truly matters, by plane if that is what it takes. Travel costs are charged on.
Our approach
Won, gone quiet, and at what point: that is how the tracks of the past two years get worked through. Then we record for every live track who owns it commercially, even when engineering leads the conversation. We write out the stage structure with a verifiable exit criterion per step. In the weekly rhythm a second figure appears beside the pipeline: the share of revenue hanging on your largest customer.
Frequently asked questions
-
Our engineers hold the conversations. Do they now have to become salespeople?
No. The technical conversation stays exactly where it belongs, because that is your credibility. What gets added is commercial ownership alongside it: someone who knows who signs, follows the budget cycle and asks for a concrete next step at the end of a meeting. That is a different role, not the same person having a different conversation.
-
Can a forecast even be right when the cycle runs two years?
Not to the month, but to the step. So we steer on stage transitions with criteria someone can check rather than on a percentage: has the technical assessment happened, is the budget round known, is the audit scheduled. A pipeline built that way predicts no date, but it does show where things are genuinely stuck.
