Outbound & Cold Outreach in Rotterdam
Why here
Cold outreach into Rijnmond nearly always fails the same way: too much run-up. A manager on the Spaanse Polder or a work planner at a supplier gives you one sentence to show you know what you are talking about, and that sentence is about their work, not about your mission. So we write the opening from the application — an operation, a material, a failure everyone in that corner knows — and keep the message short enough to read on a phone at a glance. We also reverse the channel order here. In industry the phone is the opening channel and email is the confirmation carrying the specification, not the other way around. Timing matters: people tied to a schedule or a shift are best reached early or towards the end of the day, and we record that per segment.
No list of offices — just honesty: we work remote-first and come on-site where it truly matters, by plane if that is what it takes. Travel costs are charged on.
Our approach
The calling list comes first, with a window per segment in which the right person is reachable. Then we write three openings that each start from a different application, and test them in a calling block we sit in on. Whatever clearly fails after twenty conversations gets dropped. The email that follows carries the specification and one concrete next step, so the recipient can forward it internally without having to write anything themselves.
Frequently asked questions
-
Our audience is on the shop floor and barely reads email. Does outreach work then?
Yes, just not in that order. With work planners, maintenance leads and site managers the phone opens and email serves as the evidence afterwards. We call at the times when someone is not on the floor, keep the conversation under two minutes, and then send exactly what was asked for in it. It is the same sequence as elsewhere, with the channels reversed and the text shorter.
-
How do you approach a company that has bought from the same supplier for years?
Not by attacking that supplier, because then the other person defends a choice they made themselves. We open at the moment such a relationship comes into question without any falling-out: a delivery that overran, a turnaround coming up, an expansion the current party has no capacity for. The question we ask is about that moment, and the goal is not an order but a place on the list for when things get tight.
